For new alpaca registrations, the bar code number on the back of the DNA card sent in for the original testing becomes the ARI number. For registered alpacas, the ARI number can be found on their registration certificate where it reads ALPACA ID#.

You can add or update a microchip number on your alpacas using our online system. Only the most recently entered microchip will show on the registration certificate. Older microchip numbers will still be stored in our database unless specifically requested by the breeder to be removed. A data correction fee applies only if submitting the request to our office through email, mail, or fax. There is no charge if the owner updates the information online.

On the alpaca's page choose "Request Data Change" on the "Select Action" drop down menu. Update the microchip information and click "submit" to save the changes.

You can add or update an ear tag on your alpacas using our online system. Only the most recently entered ear tag will show on the registration certificate. If you are uncertain of an alpaca’s identity, ARI offers a service called DNA Validation. Please put the blood of the alpaca in question onto a DNA card and write in the name and ARI number of the alpaca you think it might be on the front of the card. If you are unsure of the possible name(s) or ARI number(s), just list an identifying feature on the sample instead (blue ribbon, brown spot, ear tag number, etc). Do not check the original sample or retest boxes; instead write "Validation" on the card. Do not scratch out or alter the bar code. Mail in the DNA card, the DNA Validation fee and a letter explaining the situation. An ARI staff member will contact you with the results.

On the "Alpaca" tab of your alpaca's page click the "upload image" button. After uploading you will have the option to crop the photo before submitting it for approval.

If the alpaca does not have offspring, a name change can be requested either online or through the ARI office. The original certificate must be mailed to the ARI office before we can complete the transaction along with the associated fees.

For an alpaca that you have registered, ARI needs the certificate for the alpaca along with a gender change request mailed to the office. A reprint certificate and data correction fee will apply.

For a purchased alpaca, the original owner will have to request that the gender be corrected via email, fax, or mail. At the same time the new owner will need to send the certificate back to the registry with a gender change request. A reprint certificate and data correction fee will apply.
